HOLD TIGHTLY TO HIS HAND

HOLD TIGHTLY TO HIS HAND

If ever a time we need to hold tightly to God’s hand it is now.  I think of His hands often.  I am reminded that His hands are nail-pierced for me.  His hands are the hands of the Creator.  As I look outside at those grey clouds I am reminded again of those hands who hold this world together.  With those precious hands He healed the sick, opened blind eyes and deaf ears.

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yet I will not forget you. See I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands: your walls are continually before Me” Isaiah 49:15-16.

Those hands, those precious hands are engraved with your name, my friend and mine.  He will never forget us. I am again reminded of an elderly man as I showed him this scripture to remind him how much God loved him.  “But that is millions of people” he said.  And as I left him that day he was still looking at his hands and amazed at God’s promise.

As I continue to recover and have needed an extra hand to help me along I have been looking at my husband’s strong hands, His hands are strong and sturdy to lead me along in this journey I am on at this time. His hands are loving hands.  His are hard-working hands and gentle hands who gently held three baby daughters and walked them also down the aisle in marriage. And we continue to walk hand in hand together ever mindful of Who has held our hands in His over these fifty two years.

And I am again reminded of my Wonderful Lord and how He has never changed and His hands have held me fast when the storms have come in my life and as the years roll on and it seems like some trials come back-to-back.  I could not find any stories of how this song was written but look at the words and hold tightly to His hand.

HOLD TO GOD’S UNCHANGING HAND

Time is filled with transition,
Naught of earth unmoved can stand,
Build your hopes on things eternal,
Hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Refrain:

Hold to God’s unchanging hand,
Hold to God’s unchanging hand;
Build your hopes on things eternal,
Hold to God’s unchanging hand,

Trust in Him who will not leave you,
Whatsoever years may bring,
If by earthly friends forsaken,
Still more closely to Him cling.

Refrain

Covet not this world’s vain riches
That so rapidly decay,
Seek to gain the heav’nly treasures
They will never pass away.

Refrain

When your journey is completed,
If to God you have been true,
Fair and bright the home in glory
Your enraptured soul will view.

Franklin l. Eiland

I look back over the years and see the changes time has made. When I was young I never thought about the years ahead.  After all time moved slowly it seemed. We were busy raising our children and didn’t give much thought to the fact of growing old.  But here we are in our senior years and time seems to be speeding up.  But I have learned to hold tightly to His hand.  He never changes or will ever let go of my hand.

He has promised in His Word to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  And we don’t know what the years ahead hold.  As we get older more of our friends and loved ones will leave us.  Some come to a place in life where no friends or family remain but there is a hand that we can cling to tightly, His unchanging hand!

The riches of this world will pass away.  We will take nothing of this world with us when we die.  But what we have done for Jesus will bring us treasures in heaven.  Whose hand are you clinging to this day?  Are you clinging to the possessions of this world?  I pray this day that if you feel like your world is falling apart and earthly friends have forsaken you, just reach up right now by faith and take His outstretched hand, as He reaches out to you.

And someday this journey will be over.  We who love the Lord will be welcomed home at last by the One who has held us fast over the years.  There will be eternal joy in His presence and gathered there will be loved ones and no more parting over there.  So my friends whatever happens in our lives we can cling to God’s unchanging hand.

In His Name,
Pastor Sharon

MOMENT BY MOMENT

MOMENT BY MOMENT

As I walk this path with Jesus trials will come.  There will be times of great storms and then the sky clears and I can walk along singing in His Wonderful presence.  The path is smooth for a time and I feel like I can’t do enough for my Wonderful Lord.  The future looks bright before me.

And then a great storm comes into my life and I am tripped up and this time literally.  This has been a time of much pain.  I have shed buckets of tears with surgery and again laid up for a time.  But here I am in spite of my right arm bound up, to come again and encourage you in the midst of the pain and sorrow many of you are going through right now.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in ant trouble, with the comfort with which we are comforted by God”  11 Corinthians  1:3-4.

Oh, thank You Father for your comfort!  Where would we be without You?  When these times of great testing come we are then able to take our experience in the midst of our own pain and turn around and minister to others in the midst of similar trials. As we minister this way, we discover that we have great compassion, which only comes from “The God of All Comfort.”

And we are kept in His love, not just daily or hour by hour, but moment by moment.  I awoke during the night with this very old hymn in my heart.  I don’t think I have heard this one sung in many years but the Holy Spirit knew that you out there needed His Word of encouragement.  Sometimes it is in the night hours, in the midst of pain that He drops His songs of comfort and love into our hearts.

MOMENT BY MOMENT

“Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine; living with Jesus, a new life divine; looking to Jesus till glory doth shine, moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

Refrain:  Moment by moment I’m kept in His love; moment I’ve life from above; looking to Jesus till glory doth shine; moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

Never a trial that He is not there, never a burden that He does not bear, never a sorrow that He does not share, moment by moment I’m under His care.

Never a heartache and never a groan, never a teardrop, and never a moan; never a danger but there on the throne He thinks of His own.

Never a weakness that He does not feel, never a sickness that He cannot heal; moment by moment, in woe or in weal, Jesus my Savior abides with me still.  (Daniel W. Whittle-1893)

It is such a wonderful life to walk with Jesus, but trials will come until we are home with Him shining in glory. And moment by moment I belong to Jesus.

I was lying in the hospital bed from the 5th floor tower as the lights began to come on around the hospital buildings and grounds.  Some of those lights were very bright and some were a little dimmer or further away.  I related those lights to my life as a Christian and walking with Jesus.  Some of us seem to shine brightly in the midst of great trials.  I have met some in my calls who, in spite of incredible trials, seem to shine even brighter with His peace.  Then some of us seem to falter under the load and our lights of peace and joy begin to fade.  We ask “why is this happening to me?”  We may falter especially when these things seemingly go on and on.

But we are reminded that there is no trial that He is not there.  He bears all our burdens and He sees your tears and your heartaches.  He hears your groans and your moans of pain.  As I mentioned I have shed so many tears and moans of pain in this latest trial, but He reminded me and He reminds you that He is there every moment.

I am reminded that He comes in unexpected ways.  After my fall we were in the Emergency Room waiting for assistance.  As I was there in the wheelchair I noticed a young man leaning against the wall praying.  I ask him if he was praying for me and he said “yes.”  We then met together with him in a corner there and he brought out his well worn Bible and ministered to me and my husband.  To me he was an “angel” sent by my Lord to dry my tears.

Moment by moment, what a comforting thought in times of tears and pain and times of peace and joy when the sun is shining down, that the “God of all Comfort” will be there no matter what comes our way.  And “Moment by Moment” you and I are kept in His love forever.  Praise His Name!

In Jesus’ Name,
